Cast Aluminium Finned Heaters

Forced air cooling of extruder barrels using finned heaters has demonstrated proven effectiveness in the field over many years. Recent advancements in casting techniques have expanded fin surface area, while improvements in blower efficiency and output have made air cooling a viable alternative to water cooling for many applications. The key advantages of air cooling include its cleanliness, efficiency, affordability, and ease of maintenance.

Our finned heaters are cast in halves, bolted together, and machined in pairs to ensure a precise fit on extruder barrels. They can be supplied with close-fitting air cowls to enhance efficiency, as well as insulation to minimize heat loss and lower ambient outer casing temperatures. They can also be fitted with inlet and outlet air deflecting boxes, along with fan mounting attachment plates.

With high-output blowers (single or double outlet) attached to the inlet box, we are capable of providing a complete heating and cooling system.

Furthermore, we specialize in converting existing systems from water cooling to air cooling, offering tailored solutions for your specific needs.

Cast Aluminium / Bronze Heaters / Coolers

Liquid cooling has been a widely used and highly efficient method in plastic extrusion for many years. Aluminium/Bronze heater coolers are now considered standard in the plastics processing industry, replacing costly machine-grooved barrels.

Our heater coolers are cast in halves, strapped or bolted together, and machined in pairs to ensure a precise fit on extruder barrels. They are available with either single or double cooling tubes, which can be cut to length and pre-formed to accommodate extruder obstacles, or factory-fitted with various pipe fittings.

Standard cast-in connectors are available for easy connection, offering additional protection during storage and transit.

The design and layout of the cooling tube are critical, as continuous heating and cooling cycles generate internal thermal stresses. Incorrectly designed cooling tubes may lead to premature failure, which is why we ensure our systems are optimized for longevity and reliable performance.

Ceramic Knuckle Heaters

We offer a wide range of high-quality Ceramic Knuckle Heaters designed for various industrial applications, including injection moulding, extrusion, blow moulding, rubber moulding, packaging, test equipment, laboratory equipment, and more.

Our commitment to quality ensures that our heaters consistently meet and exceed customer expectations in terms of performance and durability.

Ceramic Knuckle Heater Design & Construction

Our Ceramic Knuckle Heaters are engineered to meet the demanding requirements of modern industries, particularly where high temperatures and long service life are essential.

The core of the heater consists of a helically wound resistance coil, precisely stretched and threaded through specially designed refractory ceramic segments. These ceramic bricks form a flexible heating element, which is encased in a rolled metal outer shell and insulated with 4 mm thick ceramic fibre for maximum efficiency and thermal retention.

This advanced design delivers a robust, high-watt-density band heater capable of operating at elevated temperatures. Our standard models achieve temperatures between 400°C and 450°C, while specially engineered versions can reach up to 700°C to 750°C.

Additionally, we offer the option to integrate a built-in thermocouple upon request, providing accurate temperature monitoring and control.

Thanks to its flexibility and reliable performance, our knuckle metal ceramic heater is the preferred choice among leading European industries.

Advantages & Customization Options

Unlike conventional band heaters, Ceramic Knuckle Heaters operate primarily through radiant heating, offering superior efficiency and faster heat transfer. This unique characteristic makes them highly effective for applications requiring consistent and uniform heat distribution.

When installed on injection moulding machine barrels, these heaters can be equipped with a metal insulation jacket combined with 12.5 mm ceramic fibre insulation, providing energy savings of up to 25%. This not only reduces power consumption but also contributes to a cooler and safer working environment.

For extrusion applications, the heaters can be supplied with a mesh-style outer metal casing. This design creates air gaps between the ceramic segments, allowing for air cooling and enabling precise control of critical extrusion temperatures.

We also offer complete customized heating units for extrusion machinery, which can include:

  • Outer protective cowls
  • Integrated inlet and outlet air boxes
  • High-output blowers or fans for enhanced airflow and thermal management
