Roller/Disc Heaters

Elmatic manufactures a range of quality disc and roller heaters which are be used for a number of applications. These heaters are mainly used for heat sealing in rollers on production line packaging machinery.

Designs

These roller and disc heaters are available and manufactured in aluminium, mild steel or stainless steel turned shells with a 5mm square section heater formed to a coil and fitted into the roller or disc. Each heater provides an alternative to a standard cast aluminium heater.

The advantages of our disc and roller heaters:-

  • There is more heater length which reduces the watts density of the element allowing a longer life.
  • Because the element design is that the element is fitted to the inner side of the outside edge, the heat is directed on the surface to be heated and not absorbed into the casting.
  • Because there is not a casting process, the elements do not get damp during the machining process when being turned. This sometimes causes the element to absorb moisture in the magnesium oxide which gives low IR values.
  • The availability of the square section heater is normally two weeks compared to the long delivery of a cast in unit reducing supply problems in case of a breakdown.

Working Temperatures

Our aluminium maximum working temperature is 300 deg C, watt density of 25w SQ inches (4w SQ cm). Also, our mild steel and stainless steel maximum working temperature is 600 deg C, watt density of 35w SQ inches (5.5w SQ cm).

These plate ceramic heaters are easily removable if the heater breaks down, allowing you to replace the element quick and easy.

New Features

In the design of the “High Temperature Plate Heater” includes the option of a minimum thickness of 7mm to 16mm or if you would like something thicker we can design that for you. Additional new features are the insulation incorporated within the plates which reduce heat loss and energy costs.

For high temperature applications, our ceramic plates have a louvered, stand-off terminal box which reduces the heat around the terminal area.

Advantages

Ceramic Heater Plates | Elmatic

The advantages of the “High Temperature Replaceable Element Plate Heater ” over the “cast in heaters”, are whilst maintaining the expected excellent heating performance, there are no pattern charges, saving costs. The replaceable heating element is a fraction of the price of a casting, saving costs. The availability of the square section heater is normally two weeks compared to the long delivery of a cast in unit reducing supply problems in case of a break down.

Working Temperatures

Aluminium maximum working temperature 300 deg C, watt density up to 25w sq inches (4w sq cm).

With the heating element cast into the aluminium and together with sealed terminal boxes, the cast heater becomes a contaminant resistant heating unit.
Cast Aluminium Finned

Cast Aluminium Finned Heater | Elmatic

Forced air cooling of extruder barrels using finned heaters has proved itself in the field for many years. Advances in casting methods producing more fin area and with increased output and efficiency of modern blowers enable air cooling to compete with water cooling in many applications. Its advantages are mainly; clean, efficient, relatively inexpensive and easy to maintain.

The finned heaters are cast in halves bolted together and machined in pairs to fit exactly on extruder barrels. They can be supplied with close fitting air cowls to increase efficiency, insulated to reduce heat losses and reduce ambient outer casing temperatures and fitted with inlet and outlet air deflecting boxes with fan mounting attachment plate.

With high output blowers (single or double outlet) bolted to the inlet box, we are able to supply the complete heating and cooling unit.

We also specialise in complete machine conversions from water cooling to air cooling systems.
Cast Aluminium / Bronze Heaters / Coolers

Cast Aluminum Bronze Heater Cooler | Elmatic

Liquid cooling has been used in plastic extrusion for many years and is generally recognised as one of the most efficient forms available. Aluminium / Bronze heater coolers are now considered standard in the plastics process industry, replacing expensive machine grooved barrels.

The heater coolers are cast in halves, strapped or bolted together and machined in pairs to fit exactly on extruder barrels. They are available with single or double cooling tubes which can be cut to length, pre-formed, to accommodate extruder obstacles or factory fitted with various types of pipe fittings.

Cast in connectors are available as standard as they are easy to connect and help prevent damage during storage and transit. Standard heater and water cooling tube layout The design and layout of the cooling tube are very important as continuous heating and cooling cycles create internal thermal stresses which may cause premature failure to an incorrectly designed cooling tube.

For more information regarding our aluminium bronze cast heaters, email sales@elmatic.co.uk and we will respond to your message as quickly as possible. Furthermore, Elmatic is the leading manufacturers for quality electric and industrial heating elements.
